🧬 Genetics Journal — Volume 1

Gen9

Welcome to my personal genetics journal — a space where curiosity meets chromosomes.

As a genetics graduate, I've always been fascinated not just by the elegant complexity of DNA, but also by how we, as humans, strive to interpret and rewrite it. This journal is my attempt to document thoughts, experiments, and stories from the ever-evolving field of molecular biology and beyond.

🔍 Topic of the Month: Epigenetics and the Language of Silence

Gen8

"Genes load the gun, but environment pulls the trigger."

This month, I've been diving deep into epigenetics — the study of heritable changes in gene expression that do not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence. It’s the subtle yet powerful layer of regulation that decides which genes are heard and which remain silent.

Some key questions I’ve been exploring:

  • How do environmental factors like diet, stress, or toxins shape our epigenome?

  • Can epigenetic modifications be reversed — and should they be?

  • What ethical boundaries should we draw in the age of epigenetic therapies?

🔬 Lab Note

One of the most rewarding experiences lately has been running a bisulfite sequencing experiment to study methylation patterns in neural stem cells. The cleanup was a nightmare (thanks, ethanol!), but the results were beautiful.

I’ll share the methodology and visuals in a separate post soon.

💡 Reflections

Science isn’t just about answers — it’s about asking better questions.

Sometimes, I find that the more I learn about the genome, the more I realize how little we truly know. That humbling feeling is not discouragement — it’s what keeps me going.

Thanks for reading,
